This morning (Monday 10/16) around 6:00AM, a water main break occurred on Rose Avenue. The break caused no water for the surrounding area. The break was found and isolated by 7:30AM. Due to this break, Rose Ave and Arlington Ave were without water until the break was fixed. The repair was completed and water service was returned to residents at 1:30PM 10/16. Brown water could also be experienced from the break. If you experience any brown water after the break is repaired this afternoon, run your cold water for 15 minutes. If it does not clear up in this time, please call the Utilities at 856-488-7450. Also call us if any laundry was stained by brown water during this time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this emergency repair and apologize for any inconvenience.
Fall 2017 Semi-Annual Hydrant Flushing
Beginning October 2nd and continuing through the month of October, Maple Shade Utilities will be conducting our semi-annual hydrant flushing program. Hydrant flushing will take place between the hours of 10 PM to 6AM, Monday through Friday. This round of flushing will last for a longer period of time than usual because we will be collecting flow and pressure data on each hydrant as we flush.
Hydrant flushing tends to create temporary localized brown water issues while the program is in progress, however, this procedure is intended to prevent long term chronic brown water issues and improve overall water quality.
Residents are encouraged to check their water by opening the cold-water faucet prior to doing laundry while this program is in progress. Brown water will stain clothing.
If you experience brown water while this program is in progress:
- Please run the COLD WATER ONLY until the condition clears.
- Do not run any hot water until the condition clears. Running the hot water will cause brown water to enter the water heater which will take an extended period of time to clear.
- Refrain from doing laundry until the condition clears.
Since this program is being conducted during the evening hours, it will be dark and the roads will be wet, so please drive carefully when operating a vehicle near the flushing crew.
We apologize for any inconvenience as we strive to improve the overall water quality throughout the township.
